What We’re Watching: September 2026

September is bringing us a little bit of everything—and our watchlist is getting pretty full.

From new movies and returning favorites to true crime, documentaries, comedy, horror, sports and even a little Sega nostalgia, there’s plenty to keep us watching this month.

And if you’re a Guy Ritchie fan, September is an especially good month.

The Gentlemen: Season 2 arrived September 3 on Netflix, while MobLand: Season 2 premieres September 18 on Paramount+. Tom Hardy returns alongside Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren as the Harrigan family finds its criminal empire threatened from both inside and out.

Ritchie also gives us the action-thriller In the Grey, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Henry Cavill, arriving September 12 on Starz.

True Crime, Documentaries & Stories We Can’t Look Away From

There are some really interesting documentaries and true-crime stories on our list this month.

Netflix's Untold series kicked things off September 1 with Untold: RayGun – Breaking Badly, followed by Untold: Mr. T – I Pity the Fool on September 8.

Also on Netflix is Teenage Wasteland, which arrived September 4. The documentary looks back at a remarkable 1991 student-led investigation in upstate New York, where a group of high-school students making a film began uncovering a toxic-waste scandal in their own community.

Then there’s A Killer Story: Season 1 on HBO Max. This one is not to be missed. It’s one of those strange and fascinating true-crime stories that immediately caught our attention.

And on September 30, Netflix brings us The Widower: Til Death Do Us Part, following a detective and journalist as they work to uncover the truth about a killer amid failed marriages and a trail of suspicious deaths.

Sports Are on Our Watchlist, Too

September isn't just about movies and television.

The NFL Kickoff got football season rolling on September 9 with the Seattle Seahawks vs. New England Patriots.

And boxing fans have a huge one coming: Floyd Mayweather Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao on September 19. The two boxing legends renew their rivalry in a live rematch from Sphere in Las Vegas, streaming on Netflix.

Need Something Funny?

If you need a little comedy relief, Scary Movie (2026) arrived September 3 on Paramount+.

Later this month, comedian Nate Bargatze makes his feature-film debut with The Breadwinner, coming September 26 to Netflix. Bargatze stars alongside Mandy Moore, Colin Jost, Will Forte and more.

And if a rom-com sounds better, The Love Hypothesis comes to Prime Video September 23. The romantic comedy is based on Ali Hazelwood's bestselling novel of the same name.

Thrillers, Action & a Little Something Different

From the director of The Platform comes Rich Flu, arriving September 11 on Hulu. The thriller imagines a disturbing world in which a mysterious disease begins targeting the wealthy.

Neagley: Season 1 arrives September 16 on Prime Video and expands the world of Reacher. The series follows Frances Neagley, Jack Reacher's former military colleague. Unlike the previous Reacher stories adapted from Lee Child's novels, Neagley tells an original story centered around the fan-favorite character.

That same day, Paramount+ gives an old-school video-game favorite a completely different life with Golden Axe: Season 1. The animated fantasy action-comedy pays homage to Sega's classic arcade game, reuniting legendary warriors Ax Battler, Tyris Flare and Gilius Thunderhead as they try to save Yuria from the seemingly impossible-to-kill Death Adder.

Murder, Monsters & Horror

September gets considerably darker during the second half of the month.

Ella Beatty, daughter of Warren Beatty and Annette Bening, stars as Lizzie Borden in Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, arriving September 17 on Netflix. The fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan's true-crime anthology series reimagines one of America's most infamous unsolved murder cases through a story of repression, rebellion and the creation of a cultural myth.

Then on September 25, Netflix releases UNABOMBER, a drama inspired by true events and starring Russell Crowe, Jacob Tremblay and Shailene Woodley. The film traces Ted Kaczynski's path from Harvard prodigy to the man eventually hunted by the FBI.

Horror fans have even more to look forward to.

American Horror Story: Season 13 premieres September 24, bringing the long-running anthology back for another round of scares.

And September 25 brings Backrooms, A24's psychological-horror film, to HBO Max.

And Finally...A Power Ballad

We'll finish September with something completely different.

Power Ballad comes to Starz September 26, starring Paul Rudd and Nick Jonas. The musical comedy-drama follows a wedding singer whose life unexpectedly collides with a boy-band star trying to recapture his former fame. What begins as a simple late-night collaboration could end up changing things for both of them.

Between Guy Ritchie crime dramas, true crime, documentaries, football, boxing, horror, comedy, romance, video-game nostalgia and a power ballad, September certainly isn't sticking to one genre—and neither are we.

Whatever you're in the mood for, there’s probably something on this month's list worth adding to your watchlist.
